Our History

Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure sits at the base of the mountain that shares its name. Originally known as Bald Mountain for its sheer rock face, the peak was renamed after an 1874 earthquake shook the area and, in the words of locals, made the earth “rumble.” Today, Rumbling Bald Mountain rises above the north end of Lake Lure, a landmark that can be seen for miles and the backdrop for our community.

Over the past 70 years, Rumbling Bald has grown from a single boathouse on the lake into a 3,000-acre mountain community. We now manage over 100 Lake Lure vacation rentals, welcoming guests from across the country and around the world. Visitors come to enjoy lake adventures, championship golf, spa and wellness offerings, and the simple beauty of mountain living. Many return year after year, with some choosing to make Rumbling Bald their home and an active part of our community.
